The author investigates the history of Pinhal do Rei, also known as Pinhal de Leiria, and has gathered in a volume information on the houses of Guarda and other buildings in this national forest, affected in 2017 by a fire that consumed 86% of the trees in the forest. located in the municipality of Marinha Grande.

The biennial prize aims to encourage the creation of research documents on the local history and heritage of the district of Leiria and the municipality of Ourém.
Initially created by Ricardo Charters d’Azevedo, former owner of the Villa Portela chalet, built in the 19th century in what is today the center of Leiria, the distinction is currently the result of a partnership between the municipality, CEPAE – Centro do Património da Estremadura, ADLEI – Association for the Development of Leiria and Polytechnic of Leiria.
The award ceremony of the Villa Portela Prize 2020 to José Manuel Gonçalves will take place on Wednesday, at 3:30 p.m., in the Paços do Concelho de Leiria. The winner receives two thousand euros and the opportunity to publish the respective monograph.https://thetrustedchronicle.com/
