Hospital das Caldas da Rainha in Leiria district has four patients and three employees infected with the novel coronavirus, Centro Hospitalar do Oeste (CHO) reported today.
The first case was detected on Monday after “a positive result from a patient who had been hospitalized and who had previously tested negative,” said CHO board chairperson (CA) Elsa Baião.
Eleven patients and 60 professionals of the service in question were tested at the hospital das Caldas da Rainha, in the district of Leiria, and positive results were confirmed in four patients and three employees.
“The patients have been transferred to the covid internment area of the hospital and the infected professionals are in prophylactic isolation,” said Elsa Baião, admitting that “once the results of all the tests are known, the epidemic can be controlled. “.
In a statement, CHO assured that “all the rules determined by the Health Authority have been respected and that the service is being disinfected, so that the hospital remains a safe place to provide care”.

All CHO services “are provided and are already functioning normally”, reads the same note, in which the institution calls on users to “continue to go to the hospital, whenever their clinical situation requires it,” either for scheduled acts or in an emergency regime ”.
Since the start of the pandemic last March, CHO has hired 148 new professionals “to deal with the increased activity imposed by the diagnosis and treatment of the pandemic” and, according to the AC, “continues to make every effort to hire more professionals, which will increase the response capacity of the health services and guarantee the provision of care adapted to the needs of the population ”.
In the declaration, CHO also expresses “its deep thanks to all the professionals of the institution, of the care services or of the support services”, which it considers to be performing “in an exemplary manner” its respective functions “in this demanding period. and complex, so many times with personal sacrifice ”.
The Centro Hospitalar do Oeste integrates the hospitals of Caldas da Rainha, Torres Vedras and Peniche, having an area of influence made up of the populations of these three municipalities and those of Óbidos, Bombarral, Cadaval, Lourinhã and part of the municipalities of Alcobaça and Mafra. In total, it serves nearly 300,000 users.
