In the Unprotected Association, there is a book that gives color to solidarity – Region of Leiria

“Each illustration is our big dog who needs a family forever”. This is how Mariana Lois describes the new solidarity project of the Associação Desprotegidos, a coloring book.

The volunteer explains that it is not just a story, but small presentations of each animal that lives at the shelter of the Leiria association. The illustrations of bigeye tuna are accompanied by a verse that describes some of their personality traits.

The final result? A book in digital or physical format to be colored with the colors that the imagination reaches. Even the blanket and back cover can be colored to suit each animal friend’s taste.

For Mariana Lois, who has tasks in the communication area of the association, in addition to the “very neat and beautiful” illustrations, “the funniest thing is that people realize that each of the animals has characteristics that make them feel good. make it unique “.

The book is available in digital or physical format for purchase online or at points of sale Photo: AD

The book costs 5.50 euros and can be purchased at the Desprotegidos premises on Sundays, between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., or by contacting the association via digital platforms or by email [email protected]

Efforts united by a common good

In the association, tasks are entrusted to volunteers according to their tastes or even their professional skills. This is how the book “Amigos da Desprotegidos” was born.

The illustrations are by Ludmila Vago, the verses by Jorge Vaz Dias and the drawing by Angola Gupta, all residing in Leiria and having a link with the association. Mariana Lois says the project “proves that there are endless ways to help, not just cleaning and walking dogs.”

The book went on sale on December 2 as an eBook. The physical format came later, on the 13th, after the employees of Atlas Hostel, in Leiria, “paid the book fees with the tips they received throughout the year,” the volunteer explains. The printing house itself brought a “considerable discount”.

Desprotegidos takes care of 37 dogs and three baby cats, some of these animals in temporary shelter families.
