“These are grants that have already been put in place over the past nine months and have cost around 1.4 million euros, and that in 2021 we expect to represent around 2.4 million euros” , explained this Wednesday 16., the mayor of Óbidos, Humberto Marques.
The measures, presented this Wednesday to the Municipal Assembly of Óbidos, in the district of Leiria, provide for exemption from the variable tariff of water, sanitation and waste for families “whose income is confirmed to have been affected by the exceptional situation resulting from the [pandemia de] Covid19 “.
The document, to which the Lusa agency had access, also determines a 50% reduction in low tariffs.
The Chamber will also “reinforce the social emergency social assistance intended for families and social institutions”, with funds up to a limit of 100 or 200 euros, depending on income, for assistance with minor repairs, visits by consultations, hygiene items and personal protection or payment for electricity and gas, among other expenses.
Among the measures extended until the end of June next year are the exemption from the payment of the component of extension of hours and school holidays for the students of the municipality and the exemption from the payment of social rents.
For families in economic difficulty, the municipality extends the offer of vouchers for the purchase of essential goods in the commercial establishments of the municipality. The vouchers will have a value of 80 euros per adult or teenager aged 16 or over and 50 euros per child up to 15 years old.

The measures also include support for the purchase of medicines and school supplies for pupils in basic education in the municipality.
With regard to companies, the deliberation of the council exempts all those which have been forced to close or have seen their activity limited due to the pandemic, as well as private institutions of social solidarity, associations and cultural, recreational, sports institutions. and humanitarian. which pursue scientific, religious, artistic, charitable, assistance, charity, promotion of citizenship and defense of heritage or the environment.
Companies are also exempt from the payment of commercial rents for establishments located in municipal buildings, the payment of fees for occupying public space and advertising (with the exception of banks, credit institutions, insurance companies, etc. pharmacies and hypermarkets).
Until December 31, 2021, the tourist tax will not be charged.
According to the epidemiological situation bulletin published this Wednesday by the commission of the Civil Protection District of Leiria, the municipality of Óbidos has recorded 119 cases of infection with the new coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, of which 25 remain active and 95 people have recovered. .
